Dr. Jimmy Gardiner
Dentist in Florence, Muscle Shoals, and Tuscumbia, AL
Singing River Dentistry
Dr. Jimmy Gardiner has always enjoyed calling the Shoals, AL area home. Born and raised in Tuscumbia, AL Dr. Gardiner is fulfilling his lifelong dream of serving the people of Northwest Alabama. Dr. Gardiner graduated from UAB Dental School in 1992, and immediately opened his private practice in downtown Tuscumbia.
In 2001, the office relocated to 121 East 6th Street. ”This move has allowed our office to reach its full potential,” said Dr. Gardiner.
Dr. Gardiner keeps up-to-date on the frequent changes in health care by attending continuing education classes, and reading impressive amounts on the latest dental techniques. Dr. Gardiner has consistently invested in advancements in dental technology, such as digital radiography and the 1-day crown E4D system.
“This has been tremendously popular with our patients because there is no temporary crown, or impression materials.”
Dr. Gardiner and his wife, Nan, have two children, J. and Ryan Leigh. They enjoy spending time together on their farm and other outdoor activities. They especially look forward to hosting the annual Saddle-up for St. Jude event, which has raised over 1.7 million dollars for St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
Dr. Gardiner and Nan can also be seen on Friday nights in the fall in the press box at Deshler Stadium, as Dr. Gardiner becomes the voice of the Deshler Tigers.
Dr. James L. Maples
Dr. James L. Maples united with Singing River Dentistry in 2014, joining his lifelong friend Dr. Jimmy Gardiner, to provide quality dental care for people in the Shoals, AL area with extended hours and quality dental care.
Dr. Maples graduated from Deshler High School, Tuscumbia, AL and continued his education at the University of North Alabama in Florence, Alabama. He received his Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree in 1991 from UAB School of Dentistry. From there, he came back to the Shoals, AL and began practicing with Dr. Rivers Lindsey in Florence, AL.
He continued his practice after Dr. Lindsey retired and remained until he became part of the Singing River Dentistry Team. He has always enjoyed being a family dentist working with patients of all ages.
Dr. Maples has always been active in his community. He grew up attending Tuscumbia First United Methodist Church, where he served as youth minister for five years. He now enjoys teaching the “Character Builders” men’s Sunday school class.
Dr. Maples also stays active at his alma mater, Deshler High School where he played on the Deshler Football team and now serves as the team chaplain. He also enjoys working with Dr. Gardiner on the radio broadcast of Deshler Tiger Football.
Dr. Maples is married to his high school sweetheart, Mashea Holden Maples.
On occasion at church or local events, the audience is always blessed when Dr. Maples and his wife sing duets. They have three children Jessica, Lauren and Tanner.
Dr. Bobby Moore
Dr. Bobby Moore began in his private practice in 1978, after graduating from UAB Dental School. His undergraduate experience includes a degree from Auburn University and Sheffield High School. Dr. Moore also received advanced dental training from the Pankey Institute as well as an Academy of General Dentistry mastership.
He comes to Singing River Dentistry after being in private practice for over 37 years.
Dr. Moore is a member of many dental organizations including: American Dental Association, Alabama Dental Association, 8th District Dental Society, National Academy of General Dentistry, and the Alabama Academy of General Dentistry where he serves on the Board of Directors and also served as President in 2012.
Dr. Moore and his wife Patricia live in Muscle Shoals, AL and have four grown children, Kevin, Suzanne, Stacy, and Brittne. They also have four grandchildren, the twins, Jackson and Braxton, as well as Sam and Emma. He enjoys spending time with his family and keeping up with Auburn football.
He actively participates at Highland Park Baptist Church, where he teaches Sunday school and has been in the choir for over 25 years. Dr. Moore has been a part of 22 short term international mission trips in South Africa, Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica and Nicaragua.
Dr. Brittany Westerman
Brittany Burgess Westerman was born in Opelika, Alabama and at the age of 15, she moved to Dawsonville, Georgia. She is one of four daughters to Thad and Barbara Burgess. She and all three of her sisters attended the University of Georgia. Brittany completed dental school at the Medical College of Georgia School of Dental Medicine in Augusta, Georgia. Last year, she gained an Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency degree at the VA Hospital in Birmingham.
Brittany is trained and competent in implant dentistry, endodontics, pedodontics, and all aspects of general dentistry. Dr. Westerman is a newlywed and resides in Florence, AL.
Dr. Joshua McClanahan
Dr. Joshua McClanahan was born and raised in the Shoals area. He graduated from Muscle Shoals High School in 2007. Afterwards, he attended the University of Alabama-Birmingham and graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and minors in Chemistry and Finance. Dr. McClanahan then attended the University of Alabama-Birmingham School of Dentistry and graduated with a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree in 2016.
He is the grandson of Dr. James D. Ashmore, who served the Shoals area for 52 years as a Family Medicine Physician in Muscle Shoals.
Dr. McClanahan has enjoyed being a part of 4 short-term dental mission trips while in dental school in Honduras and Guatemala, as well as 6 mission trips in high school and college as a chaperone for the youth. He was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church in high school and is currently attending Launch Point Church in Tuscumbia.
He enjoys being outdoors and all things sports. He is excited to learn new skills, develop as a dentist, provide for his patients, and be a part of the Singing River Dentistry family!
Dr. Matt Gibson
Dr. Matt Gibson, from Madison, AL A graduate of Bob Jones High School, Auburn University and the UAB school of Dentistry. Upon finishing dental school, Dr. Gibson went on to complete a year of General Dentistry residency at the Audie L. Murphy Veterans Affairs Hospital in San Antonio, TX. Outside of the dental world, Dr. Gibson enjoys time with his family, wife, McKenna, and their son, Bo. Dr. Gibson is at Singing River Dentistry 2 days per week and has his own private dental practice in Madison, AL.
Dr. Courtney Murray
Dr. Courtney Murray was born and raised in Huntsville, Alabama. She graduated from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa in 2004. Following undergrad, she attended Meharry Medical College and graduated with a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree in 2008. Dr. Murray and her husband, Charles, have two children, Laiya and Colin. In her spare time, she enjoys spending quality time with her family.
Dr. Murray has practiced dentistry for over nine years and has relocated to the area. She strives to provide the highest quality of dental care to her patients, as well as educate them on the importance of proper oral hygiene. She loves working with patients of all ages, especially children. Dr. Murray truly has a love and passion for helping people and dentistry.
Dr. Steve Hammack
Dr. Steve Hammack joined the Singing River Dentistry team in January 2018.
He is a native to Russellville, Al. He graduated from UAB in 1978. 2018 marks his 40th year of dentistry!. He is married to his high school sweetheart, Marcia. They have one living daughter Laura, and a granddaughter, Mila.
Dr. Hammack loves to hunt and also has championship trophies for cooking!
Dr. Stephen Greene
Dr. Stephen Greene is the youngest of four siblings, born in Los Angeles, California although he grew up in between Miami and Tallahassee, Florida. He is a proud graduate of Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) in Tallahassee, Florida (Go Rattlers!). Following undergrad, he matriculated to Washington, D.C. to attend Howard University College of Dentistry and graduated in 2012 with a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree.
During dental school Dr. Greene was selected as the Inaugural Government Affairs Fellow with the American Association of Dental Research. It was here he gained a passion for advocating for healthcare improvements, prevention of oral and systemic diseases, elimination of pediatric health disparities and providing access to pediatric dental care.
In pursuit of becoming an advocate for oral health, he spent three summers as a research extern at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. In his final year in dental school, he was selected to work at Harvard University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, MA exploring genetic factors associated with Pediatric craniofacial disorders.
Following graduation, Dr. Greene was confident that he wanted to continue his education learning more about oral health disparities, craniofacial development, dental genetic disorders and Pediatric Dentistry. His passion and his love for the south made it an easy decision to accept the opportunity to join the University of Alabama at Birmingham Pediatric Dentistry specialty program. He earned his PhD in 2017 in Biomedical Sciences at UAB and will complete his Pediatric Dentistry specialty in June 2018.
Prior to entering the Pediatric Dentistry program, Dr. Greene practiced general dentistry in Birmingham, AL and served as Adjunct Instructor at UAB School of Dentistry. His moto is to “provide quality care in a relaxed environment."
Dr. Greene and his wife Tasha have four children, Stephen Jr, Sydney, Samantha and Savannah. In his spare time, he enjoys watching movies, exercising at the gym and spending time with family.
