Dr. Jimmy Gardiner
Dr. Jimmy Gardiner has always enjoyed calling the Shoals, AL, area home. Born and raised in Tuscumbia, AL, Dr. Gardiner is fulfilling his lifelong dream of serving the people of Northwest Alabama. Dr. Gardiner finished his undergraduate studies at Birmingham Southern in 1987 with an emphasis in chemistry and history. He graduated from the University of Alabama Birmingham School of Dentistry in 1992 and immediately opened his private practice in downtown Tuscumbia.
In 2001, the office relocated to 121 East 6th Street. “This move has allowed our office to reach its full potential,” said Dr. Gardiner.
Dr. Gardiner is a member of the ADA and is committed to at least 60 hours yearly of continuing education. He has always been passionate about life and eager to take on new challenges. In 2011, he was inspired to embrace the changing face of dentistry and renewed his commitment to continuing education by studying research on the direct link between oral health and systemic health. Keeping our practice at the forefront of new dental technology enables our team to better assist with our patients’ overall health.
Dr. Gardiner keeps up-to-date on the frequent changes in health care by attending continuing education classes and reading impressive amounts of material on the latest dental techniques. Dr. Gardiner has consistently invested in advancements in dental technology, such as digital radiography and the 1-day crown E4D system. This year Dr. Gardiner also became a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, which is dedicated to the role of dentistry in the management of sleep disordered breathing.

Dr. Gardiner enjoys people and taking care of patients’ needs. He also loves educating and motivating our team members and patients to be their very best.
Dr. Gardiner and his wife, Nan, have two children, J. and Ryan Leigh. They enjoy spending time together on their farm and other outdoor activities. They especially look forward to hosting the annual Saddle-up for St. Jude event in Tuscumbia, which has raised over 2 million dollars for St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
Dr. Gardiner and Nan can also be seen on Friday nights in the Fall in the press box at Deshler Stadium, as Dr. Gardiner becomes the voice of the Deshler Tigers.
Dr. James L. Maples
Dr. James L. Maples united with Singing River Dentistry in 2014, joining his lifelong friend Dr. Jimmy Gardiner, to provide quality dental care for people in the Shoals, AL, area with extended hours and quality dental care.
Dr. Maples graduated from Deshler High School, Tuscumbia, AL, and continued his education at the University of North Alabama in Florence, Alabama. He received his Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree in 1991 from UAB School of Dentistry. From there, he came back to the Shoals, AL, and began practicing with Dr. Rivers Lindsey in Florence, AL. Dr. Maples has been practicing in the area for over 25 years.
He continued his practice after Dr. Lindsey retired and remained until he became part of the Singing River Dentistry Team. He has always enjoyed being a family dentist working with patients of all ages. When he is with a patient, he strives to help them achieve overall health in a pleasant environment.
Dr. Maples strives to stay up-to-date on the latest dental technologies and techniques by participating in at least 20 hours of continuing education each year. He was recognized as the Times Daily Shoals Favorite Dentist.
Dr. Maples has always been active in his community. He grew up attending Tuscumbia First United Methodist Church, where he served as youth minister for five years. He now enjoys teaching the “Character Builders” men’s Sunday school class.
Dr. Maples also stays active at his alma mater, Deshler High School where he played on the Deshler Football team and now serves as the team chaplain. He also enjoys working with Dr. Gardiner on the radio broadcast of Deshler Tiger Football.
Dr. Maples has been married to his high school sweetheart, Mashea Holden Maples, for over 30 years. Together, they have three children. Their daughter Jessica teaches in Huntsville; their son, Tanner, coaches in Huntsville; and their second daughter, Lauren, owns the Tiny Tantrums boutique and is the mother to Dr. Maples’ only grandson, Carter. In his spare time, Dr. Maples enjoys fishing and doing yard work.
On occasion at church or local events, the audience is always blessed when Dr. Maples and his wife sing duets.
Dr. Bobby Moore
Dr. Bobby Moore began his private practice in 1978 after graduating from UAB Dental School. His undergraduate experience includes a degree in chemical engineering from Auburn University and Sheffield High School. Dr. Moore also received level CVI advanced dental training from the Pankey Institute. In March 2018, Dr. Moore completed a mini residency in endodontics in San Francisco, California.
He comes to Singing River Dentistry after being in private practice for 40 years.
Dr. Moore is a member of many dental organizations including the American Dental Association, Alabama Dental Association and 8th District Dental Society. He also received his Mastership of the Academy of General Dentistry, and serves on the Board of Directors and was the 2013 president of the Alabama Academy of General Dentists. Dr. Moore is also on the Executive Board of the UAB Dental School Alumni Association. In addition to his dental memberships, Dr. Moore is a member of the American Academy of Facial Esthetics with particular training in BOTOX and Dermafil. His goal is to provide excellent dentistry, one patient at a time.
Dr. Moore and his wife, Patricia, live in Muscle Shoals, AL, and have four grown children, Kevin, Suzanne, Stacy, and Brittne. They also have four grandchildren: the twins, Jackson and Braxton, as well as Sam and Emma. He enjoys spending time with his family and keeping up with Auburn football.
He actively participates at Highland Park Baptist Church, where he teaches Sunday school and has been in the choir for over 25 years. Dr. Moore has completed 26 short-term international mission trips in South Africa, Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, Haiti and Nicaragua.
Dr. Brittany Westerman
Dr. Brittany Westerman specializes in advanced cosmetic dentistry, headache/migraine and TMJ pain treatment, implant dentistry, and therapeutic and esthetic applications of BOTOX® (Botulinum Neurotoxin). She is a member of the American Dental Association, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the Academy of General Dentistry, and the Academy of Laser Dentistry. She regularly attends continuing education courses whenever she has a chance, so she can deliver the most up-to-date techniques and the latest technology to her patients. Brittany is trained and competent in cosmetic dentistry, implant dentistry, endodontics, pedodontics, periodontics, restorative dentistry, and prosthodontics.
Brittany’s goal as a dentist is to make all of her patients feel like family from the moment they walk in the door, until they leave the office. She has a true passion for renovating smiles and loves to help her patients improve and fall in love with their smiles. Dr. Westerman actually decided she wanted to become a dentist at age 15 after her childhood dentist fixed her own smile. She immediately noticed her improved smile dramatically changed her life by improving her overall confidence in herself. She hopes that she too can impact her patients in the same way.
Dr. Westerman was born in Opelika, Alabama, lived in Jasper, Alabama, for the majority of her childhood, then at the age of 15, her family moved to Dawsonville, Georgia. She is one of four daughters to Thad and Barbara Burgess. She and all three of her sisters attended the University of Georgia. Brittany received her undergraduate degree in biological sciences with a pre-dental focus. After graduating from UGA, she completed a year of service through AmeriCorps, where she was mentor to eighth grade
students at risk of dropping out in an inner-city school in Los Angeles, California. She then completed dental school at the Dental College of Georgia. She chose to complete additional training after dental school and gained an Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency degree at the Birmingham VA Hospital and University of Alabama in Birmingham.
Dr. Westerman married her husband, Jannie, in January 2016. Jannie is currently studying to receive his Masters of Business degree at UNA. They have lived in the Shoals for two years and are excited to make it their forever home. When Dr. Westerman is not at work, she enjoys watching Georgia Bulldogs football, volunteering at the Shoals Community Center extracting teeth, participating as a board member in Junior League of the Shoals, and spoiling her Great Dane and Pit Bull, Pippa and Penny.
Dr. Joshua McClanahan
Dr. Joshua McClanahan was born and raised in the Shoals area. He graduated from Muscle Shoals High School in 2007. Afterwards, he attended the University of Alabama-Birmingham and graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in biology and minors in chemistry and finance. Dr. McClanahan then attended the University of Alabama-Birmingham School of Dentistry and graduated with a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree in 2016.
Dr. Joshua McClanahan has been serving the Shoals area for two years. He is the grandson of Dr. James D. Ashmore, who served the Shoals area for 52 years as a Family Medicine Physician in Muscle Shoals.
As a dentist, Dr. McClanahan strives to serve his patients to the best of his ability by improving their oral health and total health. He wants to treat people as family and in a way that represents his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. To help him accomplish these goals, Dr. McClanahan was a member of the American Student Dental Association while he was a student. Today, he holds memberships in the American Dental Association and Academy of General Dentistry. Every year, he completes a minimum of 20 hours of continuing education. He also spends time weekly reading and learning about the advances in dentistry. Dr. McClanahan is also trained in Perio Protect.
Dr. McClanahan has enjoyed being a part of 4 short-term dental mission trips while in dental school in Honduras and Guatemala, as well as 6 mission trips in high school and college as a chaperone for the youth. He was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church in high school and is currently attending Launch Point Church in Tuscumbia.
Dr. McClanahan married his wife, Dr. Victoria Vining, in May 2018. She is also one of our dentsits at SRD. In his free time, he enjoys being outdoors and playing sports. In short, he enjoys all things althetic. He also enjoys turkey hunting. Dr. McClanahan is excited to learn new skills, develop as a dentist, provide for his patients, and be a part of the Singing River Dentistry family!
Dr. Courtney Murray
Dr. Courtney Murray was born and raised in Huntsville, Alabama. She graduated from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa in 2004. Following her undergraduate work, she attended Meharry Medical College and graduated with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2008.
Dr. Murray has practiced dentistry for over nine years and has relocated to the area to continue practicing. She strives to provide the highest quality of dental care to her patients while educating them on the importance of proper oral hygiene. She also strives to help patients understand the connection between oral health and overall health. She loves working with patients of all ages, especially children. Dr. Murray truly has a love and passion for helping people and for dentistry.
Dr. Murray strives to stay up-to-date on the latest advancements in dentistry. She attends multiple continuing education courses throughout each year, and she is a member of the American Dental Association.
Dr. Murray and her husband, Charles, have two children, Laiya and Colin. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling and spending quality time with her husband and children.
Dr. Steve Hammack
Dr. Steve Hammack joined the Singing River Dentistry team in January 2018, but he has been practicing dentistry in the Shoals area for 40 years. He is a native to Russellville, Alabama, and he graduated from UAB in 1978. 2018 marks his 40th year of dentistry!
Dr. Hammack continues his education every year by participating in a minimum of 20 hours of courses. He strives to take care of his patients’ needs while also eliminating any pain or discomfort.
He is married to his high school sweetheart, Marcia. They have one living daughter Laura, and a granddaughter, Mila.Dr. Hammack loves turkey hunting and also has championship trophies for cooking! He is also a member of the Rotary Club.
Dr. Stephen Greene
Dr. Stephen Greene is a proud graduate of Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) in Tallahassee, Florida (Go Rattlers!). Following undergrad, he matriculated to Washington, D.C. to attend Howard University College of Dentistry and graduated in 2012 with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree.
During dental school, Dr. Greene was selected as the Inaugural Government Affairs Fellow with the American Association of Dental Research. It was here that he gained a passion for advocating for healthcare improvements, prevention of oral and systemic diseases, elimination of pediatric health disparities and providing access to pediatric dental care.
In the pursuit of becoming an advocate for oral health, he spent three summers as a research extern at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. In his final year in dental school, he was selected to work at Harvard University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, MA, exploring genetic factors associated with pediatric craniofacial disorders.
Following graduation, Dr. Greene was confident that he wanted to continue his education and learn more about oral health disparities, craniofacial development, dental genetic disorders and pediatric dentistry. His passion and his love for the South made it an easy decision to accept the opportunity to join the University of Alabama at Birmingham Pediatric Dentistry specialty program. He earned his PhD in 2017 in Biomedical Sciences at UAB and completed his pediatric dentistry specialty in June 2018. He joined the Singing River Dentistry team at our children’s location, SRD on 5th, in July 2018.
Prior to entering the pediatric dentistry program, Dr. Greene practiced general dentistry in Birmingham, AL, and served as Adjunct Instructor at UAB School of Dentistry. He is a member of the ADA, AAPD, NDA and IADR/AADR. His goal is to provide quality and compassionate care in a relaxed environment for infants, children, and adults with special healthcare needs.
Dr. Greene is the youngest of four siblings. He was born in Los Angeles, California, although he grew up in between Miami and Tallahassee, Florida. He and his wife, Tasha, have four children: Stephen Jr, Sydney, Samantha and Savannah. In his spare time, he enjoys watching movies, exercising at the gym and spending time with family.
Dr. Whitney Flippo
Dr. Whitney Flippo joined our team in July 2018. She received her bachelor’s degree in biology and minors in chemistry and Spanish from the University of North Alabama in 2012, graduating with honors. In June 2018, she graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham Dental School with her dental degree. Dr. Flippo is a member of the American Dental Association, Alabama Dental Association and Academy of General Dentistry. Her goal as a dentist is to be the best dentist that she can possibly be. She strives to do this by serving in the community that she loves, making meaningful relationships along the way. Dr. Flippo’s love for dentistry began on a short-term mission trip during her college days, where she developed a passion to use dentistry to serve those who need it most, whether they are abroad or in her own backyard.Dr. Flippo was born and raised in Florence, Alabama, and she is excited to begin her dental career in a community that means so much to her. She is married to her husband, Joe, and she enjoys traveling and being outdoors in her spare time.
Dr. Victoria McClanahan
Dr. Victoria joined our SRD team in July 2018. She attended the University of Alabama, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry in 2014. She then received her dental degree in 2018 from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry. Dr. Victoria McClanahan is a member of the American Dental Association. In dental school, she was also a member of the CMMA (Christian Medical Missions of Alabama) and has been to Honduras, Guatemala and the Dominican Republic for mission trips. As a dentist, Dr. Victoria McClanahan strives to work alongside her patients while helping them achieve excellent, long-term oral health in a comfortable and friendly environment.
Dr. Victoria McClanahan married Dr. Josh McClanahan on May 19, 2018. Her parents live in Helena, Alabama. Her sister, Emily, lives in Hoover, Alabama, with her husband, Kevin, recently welcomed their first child. Dr. Victoria McClanahan is excited to be an aunt! She loves Disney and animals, especially Dachshunds.
