When Is a Gum Lift Recommended?

Posted on 8/7/2023 by Singing River Dentistry - Muscle Shoals
When Is a Gum Lift Recommended? If your teeth appear too short or the gum tissue extends over the tooth's edge, then this may be a sign that you need a gum lift. The procedure will help your gums to look better. A gum lift will also give you an even gum line. This will make your smile more symmetrical and attractive. However, one major benefit of a gum lift is that it can help to prevent gum diseases. The more gum tissue you have, the easier it is for bacteria to settle in the gums. By removing the excess gum tissue, you will prevent the growth of bacteria.

When Is a Gum Lift Recommended?

If your teeth appear too short, then you may need a gum lift. You may also require a gum lift if the gum's borders are prominent or if your gums appear too large. The major sign you may need a gum lift is when your gums recede, meaning that your teeth's roots become visible.

What Does the Procedure Entail?

The first thing that your dentist will do is to administer a local anesthesia. This will help to numb the gum so that you do not feel any pain throughout the process. Dentists personalize each gum lift according to your individual case.

If you have larger gums or excessive gum tissue, then a laser is used to remove the excessive gum tissue. The laser does not damage the teeth or gums.

If you have receding gums, the dentist will rearrange the gum tissue to cover the roots. The dentist will do this after numbing the gums with a local anesthesia. They then place collagen strips at different points in the gums after repositioning. These collagen strips will help to stimulate the growth of gum tissue.

Is The Procedure Painful?

No, the procedure is not painful. As stated earlier on, the dentist uses local anesthesia to numb the gums. This will ensure your comfort throughout the process. However, mild discomfort after the procedure is inevitable.

If you are worried about how long the results from the procedure will last, you need to know that the results are permanent. Therefore, you have nothing to worry about. After the dentist removes the excessive gum, it cannot grow back.
